Teletherapy
In its most simple description, teletherapy is therapy that occurs over a computer or tablet or phone through a video conferencing platform.
At Kidworks, our families and therapists have the flexibility to see children in person and/or through teletherapy. If your insurance plan allows teletherapy, your child may participate in occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, feeding therapy, dietitian services, First Steps visits, and social clubs through teletherapy. Some of our families prefer traditional, in-person visits, while others have enjoyed the flexibility that teletherapy allows. Many of our clients have experienced great success through teletherapy and parents have enjoyed the benefit of direct observation and participation in their child’s sessions, making intervention between visits more effective.
what to look for
Signs Your Child May Benefit from
Tele-Therapy Services
There are many advantages to utilizing tele-therapy including:
No travel
Direct parent observation/participation making intervention until next session easier and more effective
Can be helpful for children who are sick, homebound, or have compromised immune systems
Can be helpful when a family member is sick or transportation to Kidworks is not available.
Can be used on a “snow” day!
Some children are more comfortable in their own home leading to better participation in sessions.
Treatment
Teletherapy at Kidworks is still conducted using play activities. Real time video conferencing software is used which is free for families and compliant with HIPAA privacy standards. Families are sent a link via email which they access at the agreed upon time for their child’s session. Your child then engages in a typical therapy session in real time using many of the same materials/activities/games that are available during an in-person session. Children continue to see the same therapist they would see at the clinic. And like traditional, in-person sessions, your therapist will spend the last few minutes of each session discussing what went well and how you can help your child until the next session. At Kidworks we believe that parents and therapists working together results in the best outcomes for our clients.
